How I Pass the CompTIA Security+ (SY0-601)

I just passed the CompTIA Security+ (SY0-601) exam, and I would like to share my notes and give a review of the exam.

In this article I will share with you my experience with CompTIA Security+ certification (SY0-601) and how I prepared for its test. I hope that any of the resources or tips that I will mention here will be useful to anyone who is about to prepare for the test.

What is CompTIA Security+ certification?

CompTIA Security+ is a global certification that validates the essential skills needed to perform essential security functions and pursue an IT security career. The test is highly theoretical and overwhelming but gives you an excellent start in the field of cybersecurity.

Certificate Details

Number of questions: Approximately 75 questions (the number of questions varies depending on the test version that will be presented to you during your test period). Duration of the test: 90 minutes. Pass score: 750 points out of 900. Test fee: 370 USD.

References used in preparation for the test:

These are the references I used during the preparation period:

  • Exam Objectives This document can be downloaded from the main page of the certificate (make sure that you are using the latest version of the document when you start preparing for the test).
  • Professor Messer Channel: YouTube channel. From my point of view, the channel is truly powerful for preparing for the Network+ and Security+ tests. Regarding the +Security part, you can go to this link which contains the collection of videos of the certificate (total of 13 hours), arranged in the order of the sub-themes and main axes in the official Exam Objectives document.
  • Json Dion course at Udemy website: The course was very excellent and comprehensive.
  • Free quizzes: Free set of questions and quizzes. These are the references I passed through during the preparation period, as this time I did not rely on any of the books in the uncle.

Preparation for the test

Preparing for the test did not take me more than a month to know about the existing topics as a student in my final year in the specialization of cybersecurity, it depends on your knowledge of the preparation, but the sources I used will be enough, God willing, from scratch.

The week before the test

In the week before the test, I was interested in focusing on the questions and reviewing the main points, and on the night of the test I trusted God and thankfully got 802 out of 900 in the test.
